Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education (DMOE hereinafter) is launching a website for Guest English Teachers (GET hereinafter). This website is not only for academic purposes but also for friendship and better life in Daejeon. The website consist of sections for sharing lesson plans for different grade levels, contract related information including FAQ, places to go and things to do in Daejeon, shared by GETs in Daejeon. The website is open to anyone and the contents can be read by anyone, but only the GETs in Daejeon are allowed to post any materials on. All GETs throughout Korea are welcome to visit our website at http://djgets.edurang.net and use any material posted.
Daejeon GET Handbook

Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education (DMOE hereinafter) has successfully published Daejeon GET Handbook: A Guide to Life in Daejeon. The book consist of many materials such as history of Korea, description of Daejeon MOE, successful school life tactics, administrative matters, details of tips on life in Korea including garbage disposal, banking, English speaking medical services in Daejeon, transportation in Daejeon, etc. This book was given to all the GETs in Daejeon including the newly arrived GETs in the 1st term of the year 2010. So far, Daejeon MOE has been receiving many positive comments about how handy this book is for majority of newly arrived GETs.
2010 1st term Training Program for New GETs
Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education has successfully positioned 67 new GETs throughout schools in Daejeon. By doing so, Daejeon was able to maintain 100% placement of English native speaker teachers in elementary and middle schools. For the new GETs, Daejeon MOE has provided a three week training program. The program majorly consists of teaching practices based on various methodology and feedback on each presentation. On the orientation of the training program, each teacher will draw lot to pick one of the topics from role-play, listening and speaking, games and activities, reading and vocabulary, songs and chants, writing and grammar, etc. During the training program, all trainees will see a demonstration of a lesson presentation performed by one of Daejeon's Native Speaker English Education Support Team consisting of GETs who were selected as the most competent teachers in the co-teaching competition held last year. The program is held for two hours after school and it is expected to provide enough practice for all the new GETs to survive through the semester.
