The September 2009 placement season was monumental for EPIK in terms of the increased number of Guest English Teachers placed at public schools nationwide in a timely manner. EPIK placed 690 Guest English Teachers at public schools in 14 provinces including the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education (SOME), with contracts starting on August 26th, 2009. EPIK fulfilled 100% of 14 POE's demand. EPIK had a great number of intake; 2,493 minds applied for EPIK. Out of these 2,493 applications (319% of the recruitment goal), 2,012 applicants (292%) were interviewed and 819 (119%) were recommended to the Provincial Offices of Education. In 2009, EPIK supplied an annual total of 1,264 Guest English Teachers, making a big leap compared to the numbers in 2007 and 2008, when 236 and 688 teachers were supplied respectively.

We would like to especially highlight the big increase in the number of direct applications to the EPIK office as well. For the September 2009 placement alone, EPIK recruited 118 Guest English Teachers through the direct application system. In the past March 2009 placement, 47 teachers were recruited through the system. Enhancing the direct application system can contribute to budget savings and can also provide opportunities to upgrade recruitment capabilities by establishing solid guidelines and sharing them within the EPIK team.

Selection for March 2010 Placement In Progress
|
|
EPIK is currently selecting 775 Guest English Teachers for 14 provinces, with contracts starting on February 26th, 2010. As of November 18th, EPIK has received approximately 1,400 applications and has been conducting interviews. For the March 2010 placement, Gyeonggi has requested 20 Guest English Teachers to EPIK. Gyeonggi left EPIK in 2007 but has returned to the rejuvenated EPIK this term. Gyeonggi has a wide variety of regions and a huge demand for Guest English Teachers. The number 20 is not big; however, it can be a good start for recovering the partnership with Gyeonggi.

Every semester EPIK has tired to strengthen its recruitment system to select and invite qualified Guest English Teachers. For this term, EPIK is especially focused on consolidating interview evaluations. EPIK has set up in-depth interview evaluation guidelines, brushed up on its interview questions and lengthened its interview time. We expect that the in-depth interview coupled with its initial aptitude check and thorough document screening can secure qualified Guest English teachers.
